These genes will be tested experimentally by the technician employed on the project. In addition, the candidate will provide bioinformatics support for the other projects in the group.

Requirements: We are looking for candidates with a PhD in biology or bioinformatics. Required skills are genome and transcriptome analysis and programming in R. Experience with phylogeny, fungal biology and database management or development are an advantage.

Duration: 4 years, available from September 1st, 2011.

Salary: According to "CAO-Nederlandse universiteiten"; salary scale negotiable, depending on age and experience scale 10 or 11.

Location: Utrecht / University centre 'De Uithof' (The Netherlands)

CBS FUNGAL BIODIVERSITY CENTRE

The Fungal Biodiversity Centre (CBS) is an independent research institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, situated on the campus of the largest university in the Netherlands (Utrecht). It studies fungal biodiversity in the widest sense, focusing on three priority areas, agriculture, human health, and industry (indoor air and food). Presently there are 6 research groups with a total of about 80 employees. The institute maintains a large culture collection of fungi and yeasts, and research groups such as those of Pedro Crous (Evolutionary Phytopathology), Robert Samson (Applied and Industrial Mycology), Sybren de Hoog (Origins of Pathogenicity in Clinical Fungi), Ronald de Vries (Funga; Physiology), Teun Boekhout (Yeast and Basidiomycete Research), and Vincent Robert (Bioinformatics). circle Faculty Position, Plant Pathology, University of California, Davis (posted October 29, 2010)

Title: Assistant Professor and Assistant Plant Pathologist in the Agricultural Experiment Station (55% AES research and outreach, 45% instruction and research) in the Plant Pathology Department. This is a nine-month tenure-track appointment. Fiscal year [eleven-month] term employment to be offered and continued based on academic personnel review.

The Plant Pathology Department has a research, teaching and outreach mission to develop and disseminate comprehensive basic and applied knowledge regarding the interactions among plants, pathogens and their environment.

Responsibilities: The appointee is expected to conduct research centered on investigations of plant-fungal interactions, utilizing contemporary approaches to the study of fungal genetics and fungal molecular biology. The long term goal is to gain a systems-level understanding of plant-fungal interactions that will provide a basis for development of novel approaches to management of diseases caused by plant pathogenic fungi. The resulting knowledge should contribute to the broad goal of enhancing agricultural productivity by minimizing the impact of plant disease. Research should be mechanistic in outlook and likely will include, but would not necessarily be limited to, genetics/genomics, cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics and/or computational biology. Depending on the candidate's expertise and interests, the level of analysis and synthesis could range from investigations at the molecular and cellular level to population and ecological scales. Areas of inquiry could also include the interaction of plants with oomycete pathogens. The successful candidate will have the breadth and training to address fundamental questions using modern approaches to enable an integrated and holistic view of the pathosystem under study. The appointee is expected to develop a strong extramurally funded research program. Teaching will be at the undergraduate and graduate levels with participation in the mycology curriculum of the department. Supervision of graduate students, student advising, and participation in outreach programs, curricular development, and performance of University service are expected. The research, teaching and outreach efforts are expected to contribute to promoting efforts in sustainable agriculture and the mission of Plant Pathology in the Agricultural Experiment Station.

Qualifications: The applicant should have a Ph.D. degree in plant pathology, microbiology, mycology, genetics or a closely related field. Postdoctoral experience is desirable. A strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels is expected.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Applications: Applications should be submitted on-line at http://plantpathology.ucdavis.edu, and inquiries should be directed to Dr. Richard Bostock, Search Committee Chair, Dept. of Plant Pathology, Univ. of California, One Shields Ave, Davis, CA 95616, telephone (530) 752-0308, and email rmbostock @ ucdavis.edu. Applicants should submit: curriculum vitae including publication list; statement of research and a separate statement describing teaching interests and background; and names, addresses including e-mail, and telephone numbers of at least three references. The position will remain open until filled. To ensure consideration, applications should be received by January 4, 2011. UC Davis is an affirmative action/equal employment opportunity employer and is dedicated to recruiting a diverse faculty community. We welcome all qualified applicants to apply.
